STUDENT
VISA OR PERMIT
Students
from those countries who do not require a visa to enter New Zealand, (Argentina,
Chile, Uruguay, Mexico, Brasil, Spain, Italy,
can apply for a student permit once in New Zealand, however, the immigration
offices within the country have a serious backlog of applications and the issue
of a visa can take more than 3 weeks. We suggest all students apply for a
student visa at the Embassy of New Zealand in their country or the nearest
embassy.
CONDITIONS
TO OBTAIN A STUDENT VISA:

You
can study up to three months with a visitor permit or visa, either part time
or full time. Full time courses are at least 20 hrs per week. you are not
permited to work while studying English or any other courses less than Level
5 or shorter than 2 years.

 | From July 2005,
those who study English and at the time of applying for the course have an
English level 5 or more in the IELT testing system, they will be allowed to
work up to 20 hrs per week during their stay in New Zealand, providing the
course lenght is at least 6 months.

 | From July 2005, If
you successfully completed a course that attract points under the Residence
scheme, and your have available funds of NZD 2100 to support yourself, and you
apply for a work permit within 3 months of completed your course, you may
apply for a Graduate Job Search Work Permit for a maximum of 6 months.

Those
studying full time at tertiary level (Diploma) for at least a year at Level
5 or more, will be allowed to work 20
hrs per week during the duration of
the course. Those studying 2 years or more that obtain a diploma or grade
and the students who gain a qualification that entitles to points for
residence, will be able to work 20 hrs per week subject to a "variation
of condition" in the student visa. When the course is more than
12 months, you can apply for a variation of condition to work full time
during the Christmas holidays (normally 2 months). An offer of
employment is NOT required. If you have an offer of employement,
after finishing a tertiary level course
of 3 years that attract points for residence, you can apply for a work
permit with a duration of 2 years, but you need to apply for the work permit
within 3 months of finished your career. An offer of employment is required,
and has to be related to the qualification obtained.

Once
finished a course, you can apply for futher student permits, as long as you
are enrolled in a new course at the same or another institution.

The
student visa will say which course, institution and city you are allowed to
study at.
|
 |
International
students must purchase a medical insurance for the lenght of the course at
the time of enrolling, as a pre-requirement to get the student visa.
New Zealand Link includes this medical insurance Unicare Protector in all
the course quotations, which is the insurance most widely known and with
good coverage throughout the country.

Process
to apply for a student visa:

Choose the course
you want to enrol in and send us an e-mail asking to be enrolled.

New Zealand Link
will complete the enrolment form on your behalf, with the information you
provide us.

The institution
will evaluate your application and issue an Offer of Placement letter plus
the invoice for the total fees to pay, which will be forwarded by New
Zealand Link to you by fax or mail.

Once you pay the
fees (by bank draft/wire) to New Zealand Link Education and Travel Services
Ltd in new zealand dollars, we will pay the institution on your behalf and
receive a Confirmation of Enrolment and Receipt of Payment, which New
Zealand Link will send by courier to your home address.

With these
documents (receipt of payment, insurance Nr and confirmation of enrolment
and accommodation), plus your passport and photo, you must complete the
Application to Study in New Zealand and apply for the student visa at the
nearest New Zealand Embassy, including the payment for the visa.

You
will need to show that you have enough money to cover your living expenses
in New Zealand (about NZD 1000 per month) and that you have a return booking
air ticket from your country. If the course is longer than 36 weeks,
your sponsor (father, mother or direct relative) will need to complete the
Letter of Financial Undertaking signed by that person and the bank, to
confirm you have NZD 10,+000 per year to cover the living expenses in New
Zealand and in case the need arises to cover repatriation expenses. This
letter is valid only for 12 months and can be renewed annualy.

When
the course is longer than 6 months, if you come from certain countries
affected by tuberculosis, you will need to provide a medical certificate for
TB vaccination. If the course is longer than 12 months, you will need a
Medical Certificate and X-Ray form. If the course is longer than 2
years, a full medical certificate and X-ray is required.
TOURIST
VISA
The
tourist visa is issued for periods of 3 months, and be renewed in New Zealand
for up to 12 months provided you are still a genuine tourist, and have not
applied for any other type of visa and you are paying your own living expenses.
In all cases, you will need to show that you have at least NZD 1000 per month to
cover your expenses here. With this visa, you can study up to 3 months.
WORKING
HOLIDAYS VISA
New
Zealand has agreement with several countries in the world by which people
between 18 and 30 years old can live in New Zealand up to 12 months and work for
periods of 3 months with each employer, to cover the expenses of their stay in
New Zealand. You don't need to have a job offer to get the visa.
Unemployment
in New Zealand is only 4 % and although is not easy to get a job, certain trades
are desperately in need of skilled workers. You need to be able to speak English
well. Temporary jobs are easy to get at vineyards, picking fruit, or in dairy
farms, as well as seasonal jobs in tourism (bar, cafeteria, restaurants)
